Going Deeper Into the Forest: Why We Choose Nature Over the Artificial.

The deeper we dive into the artificial world around us, the further Scott and I feel compelled to move in the opposite direction.
We find ourselves , and our offerings, going deeper into the forest.
Into imagination.
Into nature and sunshine and tree-hugging and insect-watching and butterfly parenting.
What we offer at On Track is a balm to the speed of the outside world. A place for kids and parents to slow down, sit under a tree, breathe in the fresh air, feel their shoulders drop, and the tension slowly leave their bodies.
Big task? You betcha.
This is how we use Therapeutic Use of Self - an occupational therapy approach that means using your personality, your spark, your heart to genuinely connect with your client during therapy.
A brilliant occupational therapy professor once said, "You can't teach kids when they are in fight or flight."
How true. How true.
This is what Scott and I live by. It is the linchpin of our business, the overarching principle of our lives and our partnership.
It means treating our clients, of all ages, with respect and compassion. It means leading with love and bringing joy to a task that may feel insurmountable. It means starting them from exactly where they are, and walking alongside them toward where they want to be. We act as guides, with the quiet intention of putting ourselves out of a job - because that means our clients no longer need us.
And that is to be celebrated!
So again this summer, our sessions will take place as much as possible outside, in nature. And on the days when the weather has other plans, we'll gather inside our "cozy cottage classroom", tucked away from the elements but with the door open so we can always feel like we are part of nature.
Join us in-person this summer for Dungeons & Dragons and Literacy, Leafscript™, Reading Tutoring, or online for Remote Reading Tutoring
(Oh, and that professor?
Of course, that was Scott ;-)
