Making the Journey Enjoyable: A New Way to Approach Morning Pages

I’ve been thinking a lot recently about motivation, especially when it comes to our Morning Pages practice.
What I’m noticing (in myself, and in so many of us) is that we often link creativity to motivation… and then feel frustrated or ashamed when the motivation simply isn’t there.
But motivation requires energy.
And many of us are already stretched thin, overwhelmed, pulled in too many directions, or carrying more emotional weight than anyone can see.
So what happens?
Morning Pages drift.
They become brunch pages… afternoon pages… evening pages… and some days they don’t happen at all.
And instead of compassion, we slip into self-judgment.
But here’s the truth that landed so clearly for me this week:
We don’t need motivation. We just need a gentler path toward the page.
Instead of focusing on the end product, “three full pages of longhand writing”,
what if we focused on making the journey enjoyable?
Not perfect.
Not aesthetically curated.
Just enjoyable.
For me, that looks like:
choosing a cozy corner I return to each morning
letting my body learn, “Oh yes, this is where we write”
brewing a cup of matcha I only drink during my pages
turning on soft music that makes my nervous system unclench
These tiny elements create a sense of safety and sweetness. A ritual. A doorway.
And suddenly, the resistance softens.
When we make the process beautiful, the practice becomes easier to return to, not because we’re motivated, but because it feels good to be there.
If you’re struggling with your Morning Pages, you’re not alone.
Truly.
I’m walking this same path beside you. And maybe the answer isn’t trying harder… but softening more.
Creating a small moment of joy. An invitation instead of a demand. A ritual instead of a requirement.
